In order to navigate the web of secrets and lies that Coco leaves behind, her circle of friends needs to unravel a few of their own.

But the question remains: What happened to Coco?

My Review:

I’d like to thank Zoe for Zooloo’s Book Tours for contacting me to take part in this blog tour.

The story is split into different parts and each part tells the story of each of the characters from our group. There’s Bea the newest member who is dealing with life after recently coming out and breaking up with her girlfriend. Ella, who is struggling with a recent diagnosis and is determined to push everyone away. Conrad, the player of the group that laughs and jokes all the time and Harrison the boyfriend of Coco who seems to have it all. Finally there is Coco, the leader of the group who seems to hold them all together. When she goes missing all of the secrets come out of the woodwork…..

For me this was a quick and gripping read. I instantly wanted to know what happened to Coco. Would they find her? Why did she disappear? It was clear that not everything was as it seemed and I really liked how the story was developed. Having the different POV of all the group only added to the suspense and I honestly didn’t know what awful secret would be uncovered next.

Of all the characters I liked Conrad the best. His backstory and his friendship with the rest in the group was heart breaking. He may come across as the ladies man, always up for a laugh but underneath that hard exterior is someone completely different. He was sweet, kind, caring and above all else loyal. Even after some of the secrets were revealed he still remained the bigger person and became the new leader of the group.

Whilst I had guessed one or two of the secrets there were still a few surprises along the way and in the final moments, when we discover what happened to Coco. I hadn’t foreseen the final revelations and was on the edge of my seat when all was revealed. V B Furlong takes the meaning of friendship, loyalty and group ties to its extreme and shows us readers that not everything is black and white. Sometimes taking people at their face value can be the biggest mistake of all.

VB Furlong is a trainee lawyer and writer of young adult novels living in Berkshire, UK. She wrote her first “novel” at ten years old and has not stopped writing since then. As a teenager, VB Furlong wrote for her local paper and an online magazine whilst devouring any book she could find, and in writing for an older teen demographic hopes to instil the same love of books as she had, and still has to this day.

Through her writing she aims to explore many of the issues she faced herself growing up, in the hopes that others facing the same issues feel some solidarity. Her friendships are a huge part of her life and consequently is a major theme in her writing, exploring the way in which we interact with each other, especially in difficult times.

Originally from Mumbles, Swansea, VB Furlong enjoys the sun and the sea, and walking her three dogs across the cliffs. These walks have offered her inspiration for many pieces of writing, including What Happened to Coco.
