Six Degrees of Separation – March

Hello bookworms!

This year I have decided to take part in some more memes. After seeing this one a lot last year I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go.

Six Degrees of Separation is a monthly meme hosted by Kate @ Books Are My Favourite and Best. The idea is to start with the book that Kate gives us and then create a chain of six books, each suggested by the one before…

Books can be linked in obvious ways – for example, books by the same authors, from the same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or, you may choose to link them in more personal ways: books you read on the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend, books that remind you of a particular time in your life, or books you read for an online challenge.

A book doesn’t need to be connected to all the other books on the list, only to the ones next to them in the chain.

How to Join the Meme

Each person’s chain will look completely different.  It doesn’t matter what the connection is or where it takes you – just take us on the journey with you. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the first book either: you can always find ways to link it based on your expectations/ideas about it.

Kate has chosen to start the chain with The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. Once again I haven’t read this one but I know it is classed as a penguin classic. Over the last couple of years I have been building up my classic collection as I want to read more from this genre, plus the cover artwork is often beautifully designed! Looking at my classic collection I have a few to choose from but I am going to opt for Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I listened to the audio of this one recently and thoroughly enjoyed it.

To continue my link I’m going to choose a book with a one word title, Home by Amanda Berriman. This is a story told from the POV of four year old Jesika and her story has stuck with me. Another story that is told from a child’s POV is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. Once again I really enjoyed this is a firm favourite of mine and it takes place in my hometown, Swindon.

The Curious Incident has also been turned into a musical that is featured in the West End. I haven’t seen is yet but I’m keen to see how it translates from page to action. Another book that is set to become a Broadway hit is Off The Page by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. Off the Page is all about Delilah and Oliver, two young teens in love. The only problem is that Oliver has recently arrived in Delilah’s world after being in a storybook! It’s a fascinating story and I loved reading it.

For my final link I am going to choose a book that has a book related word in the title, like my previous choice. The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams is a fascinating story of Esme and her journey to gather the unheard words of people in the 1900’s.
