Synopsis:

I disappeared on a Tuesday afternoon. I was there one minute and the next I was gone. They’ve never found my body…

It’s six in the morning during the hottest summer on record when Elizabeth O’Loughlin, out walking her dog, comes across Clare, a victim of a horrific knife attack, clinging onto life at the side of the road.

Clare dies minutes later, but not before whispering her haunting last words to Elizabeth.

When it becomes clear that Clare’s killer has more than one murder on his mind, Elizabeth has to take drastic action or face losing everything.

But what if she can’t stop a killer determined never to be forgotten?

#TsundokuSquad Review:

The story largely focuses on the murder of Clare and the quest to find her killer. For Clare’s friends Rachel and Julie the murder comes as a complete shock and both struggle to comprehend why anyone would murder their friend.

The majority of the story is told from Rachel and Elizabeth’s POV. Elizabeth is grieving the loss of her daughter when she stumbles upon Clare’s murdered body. From there she ends up involved in the investigation and starts to wonder why it was she who found the body. Elizabeth was our favourite of all the characters, we felt a lot of sympathy for her and how she was treated.

Each week as a group we only had more questions and we loved how this one kept us guessing from start to finish. We all had different theories and it was so much fun discussing them and then discovering who was right. I am pleased to say though that the twists along the way surprised us all!

This was a fast paced story that made for a brilliant book club read. As a group we still felt that we had so much to discuss at the end and overall we were satisfied with conclusion. I have gone on to download some of the other books by Claire Allen and can’t wait to give them a try.
